The West Warwick Senior Center serves as the community focal point for:
Recreation – Education Classes – Daily Congregate Meals – Home Delivered Meals (MOW) - Intergenerational Programs – Support Programs – Wellness Initiatives – Senior Transportation – Volunteer Opportunities – and Socialization for seniors and disabled adults.
The West Warwick Senior Center also provides various health and nutritional services to the senior citizens of West Warwick as well.
Some of these services include checking blood pressure, bone density, blood sugar levels, and skin cancer screenings just to name a few. Health and information seminars are also offered on an ongoing basis. The topics covered are health and nutritional education, utilizing professionals from the University of Rhode Island and Thundermist Health Care. The Senior Center also provides such activities as yoga, tai chi, line dancing, Zumba gold dance classes and quilting classes. These programs are held at the West Warwick Senior Center's facility. These physical and mental activities allow our senior citizens to continue to live independently and remain a vital part of the community.
The West Warwick Senior Center has a full and part time dedicated staff to help the elderly community with many different types of situations. In addition to our primary staff, we have many volunteers that assist us and make the Center so successful. Without them our programs could not expand at the rate that they have.
We also work closely with other organizations in West Warwick and the Rhode Island area. Some of these organizations include: The Point, Department of Elderly Affairs, The R.I. Food Bank, West Bay Community Action, Thundermist Health Care, West Bay YMCA, U.R.I. School of Pharmacology, The Arthritis Foundation, West Warwick Police Senior Advocate, West Warwick Fire Department various local schools and school social workers, and many other Town Departments.
